* Exploring God's Route 66: |
|
In a time when few have even a rudimentary knowledge of the Bible, Ray and Anna Wiseman
have done us a great service. It seems impossible, but in thirteen lessons suitable for study groups
or Sunday School classes, they take us through all 66 books of the Bible. In each of the lessons
they use descriptive text, cartoons, diagrams, pithy sayings, and simple explanations of important
terms to convey the content of the portion of Scripture studied. They do not avoid problems.
Anyone who finishes these lessons will be well on the way to grasping the overall content and
message of the Bible. Well done! |
Features
IntroductionU.S. Route 66 became famous when it starred in its own show in the early years of television. Before the introduction of multi-lane freeways, Route 66 swung south from Chicago, across the American southwest, and into southern California. Parts of it still remain in use today. Travelling Route 66 gave people much the same sense of adventure that their ancestors experienced when they followed the old southern wagon trail to California. Tourists travelling in Ontario, Canada, often stop to take pictures of provincial highway signs that bear the name "The King's Highway." God's route 66--the real King's Highway--all 66 books of the Bible, predates and will outlast all highways man will ever build. It will take you on a journey of adventure from the creation of the world, through millennia of history, right into the end times and eternity beyond. When our local church challenged us to lead a small-group Bible study that included professional young people, we couldn't find material that suited their needs. So we wrote our own, aiming it at new Christians or seekers. We planned it for enquiring minds who wanted something more than spoon-fed lessons, who wished a starting point to get them digging deeper on their own. Consequently, this study will impart basic Bible knowledge; it won't give all the answers. In fact it should challenge those who study it to return and travel the same route again and again. Have a great trip! --Ray and Anna Wiseman Chapter Headings2. The Law of Moses: Genesis 3. The Law of Moses: Exodus to Deuteronomy 4. History: Joshua to Esther 5. Poetry: Job to Song of Solomon 6.
