Why Don Ranney and Ray Wiseman make great
radio and television interview guests

Ranney and Wiseman have been around the world often, both physically and figuratively. Each has had multiple careers, faced a multitude of challenges, and have met both success and failure. Their differing experiences and areas of expertise have made them popular media guests. Special insights gained from overseas assignments have given them a valuable perspective on racism, ethnocentricity, religious fundamentalism, and North American arrogance. They have seen it all first-hand and detailed it in the novel, When Cobras Laugh. By sharing their life-changing adventures, they can help others understand the forces that break up our modern world and the requirements for practicing true reconciliation.

SIX OTHER GOOD REASONS TO BOOK THEM AS GUESTS

1. Senior's lifestyles: unstoppable
Both: highly active in their mid 70s.

2. Media experience: significant and award-winning
Both: have appeared as guests on Radio and TV. Ranney: has written two books, many articles, and numerous medical papers. Wiseman: has written eight books, nearly 1000 newspaper columns, features, and editorials, and conducts writing and publishing seminars. Both: have received writing awards.

3. Education: specific and eclectic
Ranney: BA in anthropology, MD, British trained in orthopaedic surgery. Wiseman: Diploma RCC Schools (electronics), BA (general) BGBS (biblical studies). Both have studied linguistics, cross-cultural communications, and foreign languages.

4. Careers: multiple and varied
Ranney: orthopaedic surgeon, university professor, researcher and specialist in pain. Wiseman: electronics technician, Christian ministry, video systems engineer, editor/writer. Both: worked in professional capacities with Christian missions overseas and have travelled extensively.

4. Diversions: surprising
Ranney: while in training, served with British Special Air Services as medical officer and made parachute jumps with this elite group. Wiseman: He never stops. Dyslexia caused him to fail grade 2. He dropped out at grade 9, but bounced back to enter and graduate from two colleges and a university as an adult student.

5. Life philosophies
Ranney: in contradiction to his service with the SAS, believes in pacifism. Wiseman: became a vegetarian as a personal response to world hunger. He also believes in non- retaliation as a life philosophy.

A Short Biography of Ray Wiseman

Ray

Ray Wiseman's early memory--being pushed up a rope ladder and over the side of a tramp steamer at age two--set the tone for his life. He has spent much time traveling, and most of his life looking from the hilltop of one adventure to the beginning of the next. Born in England, Ray has lived in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and South Africa. He has traveled in Africa and Asia.

Ray counts writing as his fourth career. He began his working life as an electronics technician, then returned to school to study for the Christian ministry. He spent time in the pastorate and overseas with a missionary society. He returned to electronics, working as a video systems engineer. In 1993, he took early retirement to pursue a career as a writer and speaker and to dedicate more time to the work of Partners International.

Ray graduated from Radio College of Canada (now RCC College of Technology) in 1952. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of General and Biblical Studies from Briercrest Bible College. He has also studied at the Toronto Institute of Linguistics and The International Institute of Christian Communications (Daystar University College) in Nairobi.

Ray is a member of The Canadian Authors Association and a was a founding board member of the The Word Guild, an association of Canadian authors and writers who are Christian.

Named Raymond Stanley Wiseman, Ray soon shortened that to Raymond S. Wiseman, to Raymond Wiseman, and eventually to Ray Wiseman.

A Short Biography of Anna Wiseman

Anna Elisabeth, (nee Anna Clayton) married Ray over 52 years years ago. She has participated enthusiastically in his eclectic lifestyle. They have four sons, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Anna took a commercial course in her final year of high school and began her working life in Woodstock, Ontario. Over the years, she has also taken courses from the Briercrest Bible Institute, Conestoga College, and the University of Waterloo. When she met Ray at a youth function in Oxford Baptist Church, she worked as receptionist at a manufacturing plant in Woodstock. She left that position after they married to work in Ray's electronics shop.

She dedicated her early married life to raising four sons, then later worked part time in various admin-assistant positions.

Since Ray began his writing career, she has acted as his bookkeeper, business partner, and proofreader--tasks she does with great efficiency.
